About: Jami Al Hakeem Foundation implemented an EU Funded Project in collaboration with British Council/Managing Conflict in Nigeria [MCN], titled” Initiatives to address Sexual and Gender Based Violence and enhance community security in Adamawa State” – the project has five components there are as follows;
- Voluntary Policing Sector Groups: Capacity building and strengthening of the Voluntary Policing Sector (VPS) groups in Adamawa State. The Foundation in partnership with MCN/ British Council has built the capacity of the VPS Groups and facilitated effective coordination between them and formal security institutions. As a result of this intervention community relations has improved and community policing efforts are more effective in-service delivery.
- SARC STEERING COMMITTEES IN ADAMAWA STATE: The SARC Steering Committee are charged with coordinating advocacy and sensitization initiatives aimed at addressing systematically the drivers of SGBV. The activities of the SARC Steering Committee are directed at policy makers responsible for delivery of the institutions and laws required to tackle SGBV. Service providers who are mandated to provide medical, psycho-social and legal support to the victims affected by SGBV and the general public whose behavior and attitudes have to be transformed to help address the incidence and impact of SGBV. Jami Al Hakeem Foundation in partnership with MCN/British Council supported in coordinating advocacy and sensitization initiatives aimed at addressing SGBV in Adamawa State.
- THE SARC (THE SEXUAL ASSAULT REFERRAL CENTERS- THE ADAMAWA HOPE CENTER): The Sexual Assault Referral Centers (SARC) established by MCN/British Council Program to provide service to survivors of sexual assault, including immediate medical treatment, advice on STIs, immediate and on-going counselling support from experienced counsellors’ advice and on-going support throughout any police investigation and prosecution.
- The Family Support Units- Capacity building and strengthening of the Family Support Unit in Adamawa State: The FSUs are specialized units in police stations, with a mandate to receive complaints and initiate investigations into all forms of SGBV, including child abuse and violence against children. The FSUs collaborate with other agencies and partner within the security and justice sector to investigate allegations of sexual and domestic violence, and other forms of exploitations against women and vulnerable members of the society.
